Napping with Great News!

I have great Naptime News to share! I am currently the process of redesigning The Naptime Chef website to make it a much more sophisticated resource for foodie parents. Fortunately for all of us, I am working with a professional designer who really knows his stuff! I am excited about our collaboration and can't wait to unveil the final product.

However, before that is done, the most important thing is hearing from you. I need to know your thoughts about the following questions. Please leave your opinions in the "comments" section below. I would love hear all opinions - from the most conservative to the most unusual - share them all!

1. What new feature(s) would you like to see on this website?
2. When you visit this site, what is your favorite feature?

3. How could this site be more user-friendly?

4. Any other thoughts/insights you'd like to share?

  1. An ingredient search function would be great (for all those times you have something random left over and have no idea what to do with it). Also a favorite or most popular recipe list would be great for quick finds.

  2. I agree that better search is needed. Also, the ability to browse recipes by categories would be useful (e.g.- view all desserts).

The ability for users to rate recipes would be very useful. This would give you and your readers an idea of which ones have broad appeal.

The ability to print recipes in a printer-friendly format (just the recipe, no title bar, side bar, ads, etc. ) would be great. We use that feature all the time on the cook's illustrated site.

Lastly, here's a novel idea that I don't think anyone is doing yet- a button on each recipe titled, "Email me the shopping list" so users can take their blackberry or iphone to the store when buying ingredients.

  3. I appreciate the buy local, support the farmer's market thing but it's possible or convenient about half the time. I would like to see a running pantry list that you update and add to with staples (incl brand names)you rely on and new ones you try. You could incl tips on shelf or freezer, adding to leftovers, etc.

  4. A Search would be great: by recipe and by ingredient. Perhaps even by occasion or meal.

I would also like to know a little bit more about your background and how you became such a foodie.

Having a printable shopping list would be fantastic, or something i could save to a recipe box, similar to how foodnetwork.com does it.

Design wise - i'd like to see the page a little wider, with navigation items to categories of your recipes.

Do you have any videos that show any cooking techniques?

I see you are on Twitter. How about posting a feed from Twitter on your site? Can i subscribe to your feed?

Can i submit a recipe to you?

Do you have recommendations on the brands of kitchen appliances you use?

Do you have any information on the nutritional content of your recipes?

Being able to rate recipes would be good. Although i am willing to try almost any recipe, seeing how others rated a recipe is helpful.

  5. I love;
    Canelle et Vanille (spelling?)
    Chocolate and Zucchini
Sunday Supper (on my blog roll)
Heart of Light (great food, shopping list
Budgets... for what the meal might cost
    Frugal Gourmet...
I have a great book with illustrations of eating in bed. It is a hoot, you would love it!
Seasonal recipes and list of foods...I love eating seasonally available items.

I would love to see more photos and perhaps a bit of whimsy and recipes on a side-bar.

  6. A recipe index and search function would be great. I also like the idea of the running pantry list. More photos. Good luck with the redesign... can't wait!

  8. I always loved the illustrations found in Cooks Illustrated, and @pve's idea about whimsicality made me think about perhaps mixing some light illustrations with photos.
