Kelsey grew up in Cooperstown New York. She first learned about food from the best home cooks in the world, her parents. Her earliest memories include being in charge of the ice bath for her father’s famous Bread and Butter Pickles and snipping rosemary from her mother’s herb garden. Kelsey graduated from Emma Willard School, where she was a member of Emma’s Own Baking Co., and Bates College. While a student at Bates she took pleasure in the semiannual campus lobster bake and local organic produce from Maine farms. She also spent a semester eating her way through Scotland and Europe while a student at the University of St. Andrews and to this day is a obsessed with finding that best Sticky Toffee Pudding this side of the Atlantic.
Kelsey firmly believes that while having children means parents have to change the way they cook, it doesn't need to change the way they eat. She started The Naptime Chef in January 2009 to demonstrate how she fits great food into family life by cooking during her daughter's naptime. In addition to family cooking, The Naptime Chef provides tasty solutions to the external demands often placed on parents: bake sales, picnics, warm meals for new parents, potluck dinners, book club meetings and other communal dining events. Her hope is that this website will be a resource for both inspiration and practical advice, reminding parents that cooking great food for their families can be a pleasure.
